Andie has received extensive Lymphatic Drainage training in both the Vodder and Chikly techniques and has achieved state and national certification to perform Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD/C). Andie does not use machines or electronic therapy systems, so your session will always include Andie’s full personal attention.
Your Lymphatic System
(and why it is more important than you might think)
While the circulatory system is an extensive network of vessels that transports nutrients and oxygen-rich blood to cells, the lymphatic system is an equally extensive network that transports toxins and other cellular waste away from cells.
Unlike the circulatory system, which relies on the heart to circulate blood, the lymphatic system must rely on vessel contractions, one-way valves, and external compression from normal body movements to keep fluids moving. The lymphatic fluid, which contains toxins and cellular waste, is passively moved upward from the body to the neck. Along the way, wastes and toxins are removed from the lymphatic fluid by lymph nodes before the cleaned plasma is returned to the bloodstream at the neck.
Without a dedicated pump, the lymphatic system is more susceptible to areas of fluid stagnation, congestion, or blockages. If lymphatic drainage is restricted, excess waste products accumulate in tissues, leading to swelling, fatigue, and an increased risk of infection. Lymphatic systems compromised by injury, surgery, or other traumas are more susceptible to chronic fluid stagnation (Lymphedema).
Lymphatic Massage
Lymphatic massage can help maintain a healthy immune system by clearing blockages and supporting proper lymphatic drainage. Also known as Lymphatic Drainage Therapy, lymphatic massage is a hands-on technique that uses a light touch, a treatment clients find very pleasurable and deeply relaxing. During a massage, trained therapists can detect the specific rhythm, direction, depth, and quality of lymphatic flow. From there, they can use their hands to map the vessels to assess the direction of lymphatic circulation, areas of stagnation, and the best alternate pathways for draining lymph and other body fluids. In essence, lymphatic therapy helps circulate body fluids, stimulate immune function, and balance the autonomic nervous system.
